Freundschaftlicher Austausch: Rotary Club Germersheim/Südliche Weinstraße und Rotary Club of New Port Richey

GER/SÜW. Freundschaft hat schon immer Grenzen überwunden, und es ist dieser gemeinsame Glaube an internationale Verständigung und guten Willen, den Rotary Clubs verkörpern.

Und so war es ein Glücksfall, dass der Rotary Club Germersheim/Südliche Weinstraße von der Wirtschaftsdezernentin des Landkreises Germersheim gefragt wurde, ob der Club eine Freundschaft mit einem Rotary Club aus Florida aufbauen wolle.

Diese Anfrage des Rotary Clubs New Port Richey führte im Jahr 2021 zu der Idee, weitere Anknüpfungspunkte für eine Partnerschaft zu suchen und aufzubauen. Der Landkreis Germersheim unterhält eine Partnerschaft mit dem Landkreis Pasco County in Florida. Die Kontakte zu Pasco County kamen 2007 durch eine Schulpartnerschaft der IGS Kandel zustande.

Im Jahr 2013 besuchte der Landrat des Kreises Germersheim, Dr. Fritz Brechtel, Pasco County. Im Jahr 2016 und im November 2020 besuchte dann eine Delegation aus Pasco County den Landkreis Germersheim. Das Interesse und auch der politische Wille, die Partnerschaft weiter auszubauen, sind groß.

Catherine Starky, Landrätin von Pasco County, kam 2016 und November 2021 mit Delegationen nach Germersheim und in die Region und besuchte Daimler, die IGS Kandel und weitere Unternehmen. Gemeinsam mit Landrat Brechtel unterzeichnete sie eine Freundschaftsvereinbarung. Man hoffte, dass Firmenvertreter kontaktiert würden. Darüber hinaus bestand die Absicht, Kontakte zwischen Bürgern beider Seiten auf Vereinsebene zu knüpfen.

„Young Professionals-Project“

Jetzt, im Jahr 2023, haben die beiden Clubs den ersten Kontakt mit dem „Young Professionals-Project“. Ein Rotary-Projekt, das jungen Arbeitnehmern die Möglichkeit gibt, im Mai 2024 in die „andere“ Arbeitswelt in den USA oder in Deutschland hineinzuschnuppern.

Man weiß nie, was bei einem solchen Austausch herauskommen wird. Aber sicherlich mehr Verständnis auf allen Seiten. Und was könnte in diesen Zeiten mehr gefragt sein als das. Dabei immer mit Blick auf die rotarischen Werte, die verbinden wie Mitgefühl, Inklusion und der Einsatz für eine bessere Welt.

Milan und Wilhelm, die beiden von den Rotary-Clubs geförderten jungen Berufstätigen, sind sich dessen bewusst und wissen, wie wichtig ihr Aufenthalt hier ist. Sie arbeiten derzeit in New Port Richey, der eine bei Meopta und der andere in einem Tierrettungszentrum. Im Mai 2024 werden zwei bis drei junge Amerikaner in der Südpfalz die Gelegenheit haben, die hiesige Arbeitswelt und die doch etwas andere Kultur kennenzulernen.

Rotary Clubs promote international friendship and understanding

Friendship has always transcended borders, and it is this shared belief in international understanding and goodwill that Rotary Clubs epitomize.

It was a stroke of luck that the Rotary Club Germersheim/Südliche Weinstraße was asked by the head of the economic department of the district of Germersheim if the club wanted to build a friendship with a Rotary club from Florida.

In 2021 this request from the Rotary Club of New Port Richey leaded to the idea to look for and build further points of contact for partnership.

The Germersheim-district maintains a partnership with Pasco County/Florida. Contacts with Pasco County came about in 2007 through a school partnership. In 2013, the district administrator Germersheim visited Pasco County. In 2016 and November 2020, a delegation from Pasco County visited the Germersheim district.

There is great interest and also the political will to further expand the partnership. Catherine Starky, district representative for Pasco County, came to Germersheim and the area with delegations in 2016 and November 2021, visiting Daimler, a school and other companies. Together with District Administrator Dr. Brechtel she signed a friendship agreement. It is hoped that company representatives will be contacted. In addition, there is the intention to establish contacts between citizens of both sides at the level of the associations or clubs.

Now, in 2023, the two clubs have first contact with the “Young Professionals-Project”. A Rotary project that gives young employees the opportunity to get a taste of the “other” working world in the USA or in Germany in May 2024.

You never know what will come of such an exchange. But certainly more understanding on all sides. And what could be more in demand than that in these times.

In doing so, always with Rotarian values in mind, values which unite like compassion, inclusiveness, and a commitment to making the world a better place.

Milan and Wilhelm, the two young professionals sponsored by the Rotary-Clubs, are aware of this and are aware of the importance of their stay here. They are currently working in New Port Richey, one at Meopta and the other at an animal rescue center.

In May 2024, two to three young Americans in the Southern Palatinate region will have the opportunity to get to know the local working world as well as the other culture.
